About Us

Botho University (BU) was established in 1997 in Botswana and has rapidly evolved over the years to become a leading multi-disciplinary tertiary education provider spread across 5 countries in Africa, namely Ghana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia, with an additional Online Learning Campus. All programs offered by Botho University are approved by the respective regulatory bodies in all countries of operation. In Ghana, all programmes offered by Botho University  are approved by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

Botho University’s goal in Ghana is to offer academic programmes of high intellectual and entrepreneurial nature in fields that meet the needs of the Ghana economy, in order to develop a nation that is already proud of its culture. Focusing on teaching and learning, research, community engagement and internalization, Botho University Ghana will constantly address the unique needs, competencies and characteristics of the local environment, with the ultimate goal of cementing our position as the preferred higher education institution within the Ghana Higher Education sector.

Botho University as an institution overall offers qualifications from Certificate to Masters degree levels, with established plans for Doctoral programs in the foreseeable future. The university has over 4500 students and nearly 300 staff members.

In Ghana, Botho University was officially launched in June 2024 and currently offers academic programmes under these faculties namely:

  • Faculty of Engineering and Technology
  • Faculty of Health and Education

Botho University Governance Structure

Academic Board

The Academic Board shall be the primary academic governing body of the institution, responsible for analyzing and ratifying the decisions of the Faculty Programmes Committee and the Faculty Assessment Committee of each Faculty, the University Research and Consultancy Committee as well as setting institution wide academic policies and regulations.

Advisory Council

The Advisory Council consists of members from the community and industry, and expert educators along with staff, and student representatives. The Advisory Council provides a forum for sharing of ideas, opportunities and best practices in education and acts as a channel of communication with the stakeholder community in general.
